Blackford has Huge Game 1, but Chargers Swept by McHenry Co.

McHenry County came back late to take Game 1 and went on to sweep the Carl Sandburg College baseball team Tuesday afternoon. The Scots won the opener 12-9 in eight innings and took a shortened Game 2 8-4 in five innings.

Key Moments

  • A five-run fifth — including a three-run homer from Jordan Chandler (Erie, Ill./Erie) — and another tally in the sixth staked the Chargers to a 9-5 lead entering the seventh, but the Scots forced extra innings on a two-out, two-strike grand slam from Ryan Parquette.
  • McHenry County took the lead in the eighth on a two-run single from Ryan McGorrian with the bases loaded. Bryce Brogni followed with an RBI single to left to push the Scots’ lead to three.

Shortstop Braedon Blackford (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) reached base four times out of the leadoff spot, going 2 for 3, with a double, leadoff home run, two walks, three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.
